Wall-paper "under a brick": features and advantages
Content
Relatively recently appeared wallpaper imitating brickwork. And, in fairness, it is worth noting that at first they did not receive universal recognition. Buyers were guarded by the rough appearance of the canvases, and it seemed that for the hallway this was not the right option (however, not only for the hallway).
However, as time has shown, one should not rush to conclusions. Choosing the wallpaper correctly with bricks in the hallway, and harmoniously combining them with the interior, you can get a very effective design.
Brick-like wallpapers have excellent characteristics, and a creative option can be selected even for a bathroom with high humidity.
Finally, they are very lightweight and durable. A variety of colors allows you to choose the right option for the interior of any hallway (as well as the kitchen, bathroom, living room and even the bedroom).
Varieties
- Paper. The most budget option. It’s easy to stick on your own even without finishing skills. But they will not last long. If you are not a conservative and changing the interior decoration once a year is not a problem for you, then choose paper wallpaper;
- Non-woven. Reminiscent of paper to the touch, but much more durable and wear-resistant. They can be painted. Conventional non-woven wallpapers withstand staining up to five times. They pass air well, therefore, fungus or mold does not appear on the surface;
- Vinyl. According to some estimates, their service life is up to 20 years. They have a relief surface and look very stylish and expensive. Easy to operate, they can be wiped. The only drawback is the presence of formaldehydes in their composition.
- Acrylic Affordable, guarantee long-term operation, have good breathability;
- Flexible wallpapers. More dense than all of the above options. The embossed surface is very likely to resemble real brickwork. They are made on the basis of gypsum or sandstone, and the top coating is a special fabric.
Brickwork or wallpaper?
Someone will say: “But the laying of brick or natural stone looks much more impressive!” And he will be right.
But let's try to look at the situation from the point of view of the following aspects:
- to erect a brick wall even in a small entrance hall - this is a very expensive undertaking;
- far from always modern architectural standards allow such plans to be implemented in apartments;
- the time it takes to erect a brick wall or partition will be several times greater than the time required to finish the walls "under the brick";
- you can glue the walls with your own hands, but in order to make a laying of stone or brick, you will need to find a specialist;
- natural stone (unlike decorative finishes) often becomes a source of additional problems.
Brick Wallpaper and Style
It turns out that “brick” wallpapers are not only convenient and practical, but also very fashionable. This finish perfectly complements the interiors in the style of loft, fusion, techno.
It looks more gently and accurately in the Scandinavian direction of interior design and is very organic in modern minimalist designs.
Important! Brick wallpaper is not limited to classic red or white. Modern trends admit multicolor in all its manifestation, and even some abstract plots or imitation of drawings in the style of graffiti. It all depends on the purpose of the premises, the tastes and preferences of its owners and the available budget.
It is far from always required to decorate all the walls in the hallway with the same "brick" paintings. The combined decoration of the walls looks much more impressive when only one wall, or even a fragment of it, is made “under the brick”.
Color spectrum
Red brick
Perhaps the most common option for the hallway. High-quality dense wallpaper with a textured surface is very likely to convey the feeling of natural brickwork.
This color scheme blends perfectly with wooden doors and hallway furniture. Moreover, the color of the tree may be light, or may be dark - harmony is still ensured.
Another advantage of the "red brick" is the non-marking color. Still, the hallway is a place where you return after a walk with a dog, or go from the street in rainy weather. Red brickwork on the wallpaper will retain its original appearance for a long time.
White brick
Most often, this type of decoration is used in fragments, that is, they are pasted over with a wall-paper like a brick, or only part of the wall. And the rest of the surfaces are made out either in contrast or in white, but they use smooth wallpapers.
For the hallway, “white brick” is not the most suitable option. But if you really want, then why not!
For example, decorate the wall farthest from the front door with such wallpaper and place a mirror on it, and the rest of the walls can be done in black at all. Such a play of colors will create an amazing effect.
Multicolored
Perhaps the design of the walls of the hallway with wallpaper under a brick of different colors is one of the new trends.Fans of custom solutions are not forbidden to paste over the entire hallway with such wallpaper, regardless of its size. Those who are not a supporter of excessive brightness can be advised to use this finish for only one wall.
When applying bright colors, you should be careful in choosing an additional decor so that it does not turn out "oil oil". A painting, sconce or figurines should be as concise as possible, and better not to use anything like that at all.
Brick walls are not a lack of taste, but an indicator that you keep up with the times and try to use fashion trends in the design of the hallway. And what color to choose, and in what quantity to use a brick - depends only on your preferences.
