Translated from English, “hi-tech” literally means “high technology”. This direction of interior design arose at the end of the XX beginning of the XXI century. Its main characteristics are restraint, functionality, manufacturability and scientific.
As a rule, hi-tech is preferred by people who cannot imagine their life without innovative technologies. They use the achievements of scientific and technological progress to simplify life and make it as comfortable as possible.
Interior Features
A bedroom or a relaxation room should be especially cozy and pleasant for spending time. And high-tech can turn it into a set for a modern science fiction film! However, this does not mean that it cannot be convenient in such a room. If you are thinking of equipping a hi-tech bedroom, first read the monumental rules of this area.
- Minimalism. Style "prefers" a lot of space and little furniture. And if it is not difficult to equip a hi-tech bedroom in a country house, it can be very difficult on the modest square meters of a small apartment.
- Multifunctionality and practicality. Any detail of the interior easily performs a number of functions. At first glance, a bed, a wardrobe and armchairs seem primitive and understandable, but in reality they hide a lot of additional features.
- Geometry. The shape of the furniture and its location are subject to strict rules. The basis of hi-tech is geometric shapes in all their diversity - triangles, squares, circles and so on.
- The use of natural materials. In the decoration, preference is given to metal, expensive plastic or brick. It is allowed to use high-quality imitation of stone. For upholstery, curtains or tablecloths use linen, cotton, silk.
- Special lighting. It is only at first glance that the high-tech seems gray and gloomy. In fact, proper and adequate lighting is one of its foundations. In this case, the presence or absence of a natural light source (windows or loggias) does not matter. Usually a multi-level arrangement of fixtures is used. Particularly effective are point light sources reflected in a glass or metal surface. Cold neon shades are welcome: purple, emerald, blue.
- Color palette. Gray, black and white are three whales on which the general design concept is “erected”. Although the style allows the use of bright accents, but exclusively in "small doses", for example, bright sofa cushions, or a large vase of contrasting color.
- High tech. As the name implies, the abundance of technology of the latest generation - should be the main detail in the interior.Numerous gadgets are deliberately displayed, complementing the high-tech interior.
The tree in its traditional sense should be completely excluded from the interior. Allowed only painted in white, black or metallic color elements that reliably hide their "true face" under a layer of paint.
To organize a hi-tech bedroom in a limited space, you will have to make every effort. Only professional masters can do this, since on modest square meters they will have to create the illusion of a room of impressive size. For this, a special design move is used - the use of different shades.
For tiny bedrooms, a palette of at least three colors is selected. Sufficient natural and artificial lighting is appreciated. To save space, the fixtures are mounted directly into the wall or ceiling, this saves space and guarantees the illumination of the room.
Ceiling, floor and wall finishes
Ceiling
The glossy surface of the stretch ceiling is the perfect solution for hi-tech. Of the possible color options, stop the choice on silver-gray, in extreme cases - on white or black.
This decoration is also practical for small rooms, because, thanks to the reflective surface of the ceiling, it seems that the room is much more spacious than it actually is. And the luminaires located around the perimeter are not only functional, but also very impressive.
Floor
The floor does not require special design research, the main thing is that it meets certain requirements.
- No decor. Forget about patterns and ornaments.
- Gloss (however, like on the ceiling) is appropriate in all manifestations.
- The effect of an aged antique wooden floor is not at all appropriate, because high-tech is an ultramodern direction.
However, the designers agree that a natural tree on the floor in a high-tech bedroom can be used, provided that boards with a natural shade are chosen. Laminate can only be used in cool, restrained tones. The bulk floor is gaining more and more popularity, and this is not surprising, because the ultramodern solution fits perfectly with the high-tech style.
The white color of the flooring "takes root" only in a small bedroom. This will make the room even more comfortable and will have a good effect on the perception of the room.
Walls
In addition to the overall design of the bedroom, the walls are kept in calm neutral shades. As already noted, bright colors are "dosed" in a dosed manner and only as accents. And it is the laconic color scheme that makes these accents more vivid and interesting.
Finishing material can be anything - from paint to wallpaper, the main thing is the correct color scheme. Non-woven wallpapers in a metal gamut look very interesting. A light reflection effect is what the style needs.
Choosing furniture and textiles
Furniture should be as simple and practical as possible: clear lines and primitive shapes. When choosing the number of interior items, remember, there should be a minimum of them in high-tech. For a bedroom, a bed, a bedside table, a wardrobe and a pair of armchairs will become such a set. Paired bedside tables located on both sides of the bed is an outdated concept.
The trend is glass tables, somewhat reminiscent of coffee. A dressing room and a wardrobe are hidden behind panels, which in a closed form merge with the decoration of the walls. By the way, in this area of interior design it’s not customary to hide things “behind seven locks”, on the contrary, all storage areas are as if specially displayed.
When decorating windows, take note that multilayer structures, as well as decorating curtains with tassels and lambrequins, are something that should never “settle down” in a hi-tech design bedroom. Ideal option - blinds or Roman curtains.
A simple tulle looks good, which does not impede the penetration of sunlight and is almost invisible in the window opening. It is also possible to use curtains from monophonic fabric to a half of a window.
In general, it’s important for you to choose, so that the color and form complement the style of the room, rather than argue with it, drawing attention to yourself.
Let there be light!
Large lamps and massive chandeliers are the light sources that never take root in high-tech. But spotlights built into the walls, floor and ceiling will be a worthy addition to the interior style. Even a chandelier in the middle of the ceiling is quite appropriate if it has the correct shape and is devoid of numerous decorative elements.
The number of such lamps directly depends on the area of the room in which they are located. It is only at first glance that the high-tech design seems gloomy, adequate lighting is a distinctive feature of high-tech.
Especially the question of lighting should be considered with a dark palette of finishes, and if the room "looks" to the west or north. In addition, thanks to the correct arrangement of the fixtures, you can visually increase the modest parameters of the room. And small sconces placed near the bed will help to create a calm atmosphere before going to bed.
High-tech - a unique style, which combines restraint and minimalism with the latest technology. Despite the fact that this style is the exact opposite of luxurious baroque or rococo, its implementation will require serious financial costs. And yet, if you want to embody a high-tech style in your own interior - go for it!
