If you characterize the modern style in three words, it will be comfort, functionality and beauty. Laconicism and ultramodern decisions in an interior are characteristic of this direction.
Style features
Content
Just note that the modern style has a number of directions that are somewhat different from each other. Therefore, it makes sense to understand in detail which particular features are inherent in a particular design.
Grunge
A very interesting direction, combining inconsistent tricks. A kind of modern antiquity. Typically, grunge shows moderate affluence and impeccable taste. The design of this style is distinguished by the presence of elegant and solid interior items. It resembles an elaborate classic, but the marble floor is replaced with varnish, and the furniture is chosen without gilding and monograms.
The main features of the style:
- Objects are voluminous, but simple in shape.
- The layout is “open” in nature.
- Expensive finishing materials are only imitated (for example, expensive Venetian plaster is replaced with textured wallpaper).
- Availability of textiles and coatings. Actively used natural fabric: linen, cotton, silk.
- Interior items with a slight hint of antiquity (tarnished bronze, antique wardrobes and chests of drawers, brushed wood).
- Do not forget about the so-called family values: floor lamps, candlesticks and forged elements vividly testify to the rich history of the genus (or imitate it).
Kitsch
An interesting design direction that not every supporter of the new and the modern will stand. In simple words, this direction is called "all at once." This is a kind of protest against the generally accepted values and virtues of traditional styles.
Distinctive features of kitsch:
- Not real luxury, but sheer fake. At the same time, artificiality is emphasized, but not hidden, so that the abundance of bright and brilliant does not become a sign of bad taste.
- Glamor in everything: candelabra, satin fabrics and pink are the eternal companions of kitsch.
- Pillows, figurines and vases in breathtaking quantities.
- A clear parody of other styles of interior design.
Country
Another popular trend in modern design. This is a kind of embodiment of the "rural interior" in a comfortable apartment. Starch sheets, plenty of hand-made items and natural materials everywhere.
Country Features:
- Solid wood furniture, bulky and solid.
- Textiles in all possible manifestations: pillows, bedspreads, napkins. The main thing is to withstand the general coloring - if there are peas, then it should be everywhere. The same goes for stripes or floral prints.
- Bedspreads knitted manually or sewn in the style of patchwork technique.
- Presence of old-fashioned items: chest of drawers, floor lamp, chest or grandfather clock.
Important! Perfect country style is inappropriate. "Organize" a slight negligence in the setting.
For the design of a small country bedroom - one of the most suitable options. It allows you to harmoniously and comfortably arrange all the necessary items, create a calm and peaceful environment.
Loft
This style is characterized by just two words: art and space. Of course, it can be difficult to realize it in a bedroom of 14 sq m, but it's worth a try.
Features loft style.
- Uneven plaster, brickwork - in other words, everything that indicates incomplete repair.
- Preference for light shades.
- A combination of incongruous: for example, an old countertop and cutting-edge household appliances.
- Industrial elements: wiring, rough furniture, pipes. In general, the effect of non-residential premises.
Bedroom-living room
The combination of bedroom and living room is the most common option for combining zones of different purposes. The main task is to create a convenient and functional place for receiving guests and sincere gatherings, without sacrificing a full-fledged recreation area. The bedroom itself, at the same time, should remain somewhat "in the shade", after all, this is a personal space.
Zoning is the most common way to separate one zone from another. Screens, translucent thin partitions or curtains made of beads or ribbons are used as partitions. Use racks or furniture to separate the space is not worth it - too small area. The space will become “heavy” and uncomfortable.
A good way to divide a room is to use a podium. The bed is either placed on it or built in. And the podium itself is used to store textiles or other necessary household items.
Of course, choosing the zoning option, the layout of the room is taken into account. It is easier to “divide” a rectangular-shaped room than a square room.
Color spectrum
Color for the bedroom interior is hardly key. After all, it is the color scheme that has a serious impact on the emotional and mental state of a person. And in the relaxation room, the atmosphere should be conducive to relaxation, create a feeling of coziness and comfort.
Green, beige, blue, as well as gray and chocolate shades are welcome in the design of the bedroom. By the way, the natural wood and metal used in the decoration also have a relaxing effect.
The shape and size of the room should also be considered. In a small space, light colors will play an “expansion", and the choice of dark colors will visually reduce the room. In a small bedroom, it is better to design the ceiling with pure white, and the walls without a picture. In this case, it is not necessary to repeat the same design on all four walls, you can "play" with color.
Many projects are carried out in two or three contrasting colors. For example, a blue-orange bedroom looks very impressive, but the combination is not difficult to perceive. More “gentle” duets - beige and gray, or peach and beige.
A little design trick: any color combination can be diluted with white. But it is important to remember that the interior should not be full of all the colors of the rainbow. If you want what’s called to add life, just use the shades of those colors that are already present in the interior.
Furniture
A feature of the modern design direction is a minimum of furniture, a maximum of functionality. For small rooms - this is the perfect solution.
So, the necessary pieces of furniture.
- Bed. Moreover, a berth is not necessarily chosen double.
- Roomy chest of drawers.
- Cupboard.
That's all, for the bedroom interior design of 14 sq m the area limit has been exhausted. Leave different bedside tables, floor lamps and armchairs for large bedrooms.
By the way, storage systems are selected depending on your personal preferences. Since there are open and closed options, choose what suits you personally. For example, someone instead of a cabinet would prefer an open shelf, and a chest instead of a chest of drawers.
Depending on the style, the material from which the furniture is made is selected. Thus, rustic style, country and chalets “prefer” natural wood and bulky shapes. For a loft, furniture with painting or covered with leather is suitable. Artificially aged items are welcome.
Finishing materials
Contemporary style is appreciated for its flexibility and lack of strict rules. Therefore, when choosing finishing materials, rely on your own preferences.
Here are just a couple of recommendations:
- Choose durable, possibly natural finishing materials.
- Do not get carried away with stylistic directions: that is, by choosing a certain style, do not get hung up on it, make the room comfortable and functional.
The most popular options for wall decoration: plaster, wallpaper, painting, wood panels. Less often, the walls are upholstered with fabric. For certain areas (for example, for a loft) they create the effect of incomplete repair.
Ceiling finishes are not very diverse: stucco or false ceilings. Plaster, as a rule, is chosen white, but hinged structures can be of various colors and even combined. Thanks to the latter, there is the possibility of an unusual arrangement of lamps. Having abandoned one large chandelier, spectacular schemes are created, and even multifunctional options (that is, the lighting is regulated: if necessary, it becomes brighter, or, conversely, is muted).
For the floor, a laminate, parquet or wood is chosen. Of course, the latter option is not so common, but still there is a place to be. But, perhaps, the leader for low-cost interiors remains linoleum: high-quality, suitable colors and with excellent technical characteristics.
Important detail: furniture and decorative elements must be in harmony with the decoration of the walls, ceiling and floor. So, if the decoration is dominated by natural materials, it is better if the furniture will also be made of natural wood. If the decoration was used predominantly plastic, then the decor should be appropriate.
The design of the bedroom in a modern style is the maximum comfort and functionality of each item. Such an interior is easy to implement both on modest square meters and in spacious rooms.
