It just so happened that the bedroom is considered the most comfortable and quiet place in any home. But in order for nothing to disturb you during sleep, you should seriously consider the interior of this room. It is no coincidence that very often the bedroom is decorated in the Provence style, bringing lightness and romance to the atmosphere of the room.
History and style features
Content
First of all, Provence is not only the name of one of the oldest regions of France. This word was called the outback, the countryside. And what is the outback in France? Endless vineyards, manicured fields, and even the sea coast.
It is worth noting that Provence, as a style, is a rather ancient phenomenon. Already in the XVIII century, rural "notes" in the interior became in demand by aristocratic society. And the light spoke about the features of this design direction.
Design features.
- Warm shades in the color palette. The base of the style remains light, as if faded from time to time, colors. Bright, aggressive and dark colors are unacceptable.
- Decorative plaster on the walls creates a textured surface and emphasizes the commitment to the Provence direction.
- Naturalness and naturalness in everything. In such an interior you will not find plastic or polyurethane objects, and your foot will not step on the carpet.
- Antique furniture. Dressers and cabinets with the effect of scuffs or peeling paint look beautiful and appropriate. Obviously, this is a hint at the venerable age of Provence as a style.
- Flowers in unlimited quantities. Ultimately, it does not matter in what form they will be - live, dried, as an application - the main thing is that they take place. This decor is easily created with your own hands ...
- Do not forget about porcelain and ceramic figures. The main condition is refinement and sophistication, as well as light shades of the material.
- Massive wooden beams are used as the ceiling decoration. Usually they are covered with whitewash or painted with white paint.
- Forged products are obligatory “companions” of style. It can be headboards, tables, or just decorative elements without any special purposes. Thanks to them, the room retains the romantic atmosphere of antiquity.
- Embroidered textiles are another indispensable element of Provence. Cute pictures look beautiful on tablecloths, napkins and pillowcases. Even rugs and bedspreads can be embroidered.
- In general, textile interior details should be made of light canvases with a delicate floral print. Bright and large flowers are no longer provence.
Varieties of style
It turns out that Provence is different. This design direction has varieties with characteristic features.
- French Provence. This is what is called a classic of the genre. Natural materials in decoration and furniture, an abundance of flowers in their various manifestations, white color and handmade tablecloths with lace and embroidery. In its classical manifestation, this style looks very romantic, and not everyone likes it. By the way, a great design solution is a synthesis of Provence and classics. As a result, the interiors are incredibly beautiful and comfortable.
- Provence and classic. Since classics are characterized by luxurious pathos furniture, adding elements of Provence to it is not difficult - you just need to artificially “age” a chest of drawers or a wardrobe.
- Modern provence. In modern execution, Provence is often confused with the country style. Keeping up to date, the style has lost the abundance of romantic flowers and lace, has become more restrained and concise. Wood carvings have become softer, and forged products more refined.
Decoration Materials
Almost everything that has rural roots is done in good faith. And the French rustic interior style was no exception. Finishing materials are very diverse.
For example, walls are decorated with simple plaster. Such a primitive and slightly uneven finish is what you need. Fans of wooden surfaces will prefer to sheathe walls with wooden panels. The main thing is that they be painted in white or pastel colors.
If you do not like the equally designed walls, leave one of them “without decoration”, just brick. As a rule, in this way there is a zone at the head of the bed or a niche.
Wallpaper in Provence is a fairly new trend, but if they have a light floral print, then why not. Cute bouquets or scenes from pastoral life will bring notes of romanticism to the bedroom.
If the room is small, then the best solution for wall decoration will be painting or whitewashing. The color you can choose is not necessarily white, but, for example, milky, blurry blue or fawn.
A worthy addition to the soft and light walls will be a slightly rough beam ceiling. It will appropriate shade of light stucco (or paint).
We turn to the finish of the floor. Like everything in Provence, it should not be dark in color. Usually for the floor, boards or ceramic plates are chosen. A laminate that mimics a wooden surface is also suitable. It is worth noting that today on the market there are plenty of the most diverse laminate: in color and in pattern. But still a matte laminate that mimics wood (better bleached and aged) is an ideal option.
Fixtures for the interior
Lamps that are ideal for this style can be divided into two categories.
- Conservative chandeliers of standard sizes and shapes, complemented by glass shades in the form of lilies, candles or lanterns. Forged inserts complement them.
- Lamps with fabric lampshade.
A combination of these lamps is allowed in the interior: on the ceiling - a chandelier, by the bed - a lamp with chintz shade.Near the toilet mirror, a sconce is installed, stylized as candelabra, decorated with forged fixtures.
Furniture and decor
First of all, no provence can exist without a chest of drawers. Practical and roomy, it will help solve the issue of storing bedding and other vital items in the bedroom. The surface of the dresser is ideal as a stand for a vase with flowers.
A small dressing table and a mirror in an openwork frame are another regular in a Provence style bedroom. The main thing is that both the table and the frame of the mirror should be designed in the same style: forged or made of wood.
When square meters allow you to combine the bedroom and the study, set a desk. It is better to give preference to a small option, so as not to clutter up the space.
It is difficult to imagine a bedroom without a closet, but Provence does not require this. It is better if the cabinet does not look bulky externally. Today, one can easily find such models: with external compactness, they turn out to be very capacious and convenient to use.
Strange as it may seem, the bookcase must also find a place in the Provence style bedroom. Such a cabinet usually has glass doors and does not hide its contents from prying eyes.
As decorative elements for the French rustic style, frames with photos, an abundance of pillows, elegant napkins and tablecloths are used.
As you can see, the Provence-style bedroom can be decorated in the apartment, in the country, and in a luxurious country house. A little aged furniture and decorative textiles, and you will be able to create an unusually romantic and cozy place to relax.
